Maximising the inclusion and achievement of children with Special Educational Needs
The Support Service for Special Educational Needs aims to ensure the inclusion and achievement of children with special educational needs and the building of expertise within schools in Derbyshire, in line with current local and national initiatives.
Our core role is to provide specialist teaching, advice and support delivered in school by a teacher from SSSEN. This will give learning opportunities on at least a weekly basis to children with SSSEN allocated on Statements/EHC Plans/GRIPs who meet service criteria. Additional costed interventions training can be purchased by schools through courses and through bespoke training.
The Service provides a comprehensive programme of training to schools throughout the academic year. Training content includes practical interventions and strategies to help meet a wide range of learning needs. In addition, the Service provides advice and training on whole school SEN development.
Bespoke training can be delivered in-school focused on a specific area of SEN eg whole staff training, groups of staff or individual development. In addition, SSSEN Specialist Teachers can also provide support with Provision Mapping, new SENCO support and specialist learning assessments for children without SSSEN provision. SSSEN Senior Leaders can also provide support with School Improvement (SEND focus) e.g. SES support and development planning.
