Safeguarding Training for School Governors

Safeguarding Training for Governors; to enable Governors to understand Safeguarding and Support DSL and Senior Management Leads

Outline

Governance Handbook: published by the Department for Education (DfE) says: It is helpful if all board members have training about Safeguarding, whether the board acts collectively or an individual member takes the lead. This will make sure they have the knowledge and information needed to perform their functions and understand their responsibilities.

Description

We are suggesting that the Safeguarding Governor and/or Chair of Governors attend this course to look at how they manage Safeguarding within their schools, they can then cascade to the full governing body, however, all school Governors are welcome to attend this course.

All school Governors should consider attending the whole school safeguarding session when this is delivered in school either by the training team or the Head or DSL, to understand abuse and neglect and how to respond.

Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will:
  • understand the safeguarding agenda for schools and where child protection fits into it
  • explore the roles and responsibilities of Governors in relation to safeguarding
  • understand the implications of legislation
  • understand the implications of Ofsted.
